Pension age
The standard pension age is set by Legea nr. 156/1998, art. 41 — already at its own target for men, while for women it rises step by step, year after year, toward full equality with men.
Men: 63 years
Men qualify for the old-age pension at 63 years, alongside the full service requirement of 34 years (Legea nr. 156/1998, art. 41). This age is already at the law's own target for men.
Women: a transition still in progress
For women, the standard age is currently 62 years, alongside a full service requirement of 34 years — the same service condition as for men. The age, however, is not yet equal to men's (63 years): it rises step by step, toward full equality between the two. The figure above is the current one, not a settled number — check this page for updates.
We found no route, in the shape this page can hold, to the old-age pension on service alone, regardless of age. The law does provide a separate early pension conditioned on long insured service — a different mechanism, which this page does not cover.
